Welcome Home

APW CSD School Nurse

The school nurses are the first line of primary care for our students and are responsible for every child in the APW Central School District. Each nurse contributes their own strengths to APW’s Health Services program. Their collaboration provides a continuity of care from the home to the classroom in order to keep children in school.

  • The School Nurse:

    • Screens for barriers to learning, vision, and hearing
    • Triages and treats accidents and illnesses for the entire school population
    • Administers medication and manages chronic illnesses
    • Is responsible for the day-to-day management of the entire school population’s health; they are salaried through the education system
    • Enhances students’ health, academic outcomes, and overall well-being
    • Reduces emergency room visits and hospitalizations

    The SBHC:

    • Provides primary care and treatment for clinic-enrolled students
    • Offers physical exams and sports physicals
    • Prescribes medications
    • Staff are sponsored by a for-profit community health center funded by public and private insurance
  • Your school nurse will refer clinic-enrolled students to the SBHC based on their assessment of a student's complaint or for a scheduled physical exam.
